reetings St. John’s Lutheran Church!
We want you to know, brothers and sisters, about the grace of God that has been granted to the churches of Macedonia; for during a severe ordeal of affliction, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For, as I can testify, they voluntarily gave according to their means, and even beyond their means, begging us earnestly for the privilege of sharing in this ministry to the saints. –2 Corinthians 8:1-4
Another holiday season is almost upon us: a season of sharing food, hospitality, and gifts. In the coming weeks, we will prepare our homes and hearths to generously receive visitors. Let us also prepare our hearts and minds to generously share what God has first given to us.
In worship this month, we will engage with the theme of “Fearless Generosity.” How does our fear of our own inadequacy – our perceived lack of skills or experience – and of our own limitations – our perceived lack of time or resources – keep us from freely and generously sharing with others? How can we, like the Corinthians, step boldly out of our comfort zone and follow the example of the Macedonians?
Join us in worship as we contemplate each Sunday’s theme and hear testimony from our siblings in Christ about how their experience speaks to that theme. Stay after worship to engage in an activity that puts the theme of the week into action. Live out the theme during the week by taking on the weekly congregational challenge.
How can our life together be transformed by fearless generosity? How can our future be shaped by generous living? Join us this coming month on Sunday and through each week, to find out!
In Christ, Pastor Kat
